Link Bait

I said that the number of back link is very important for SEO (and of course link will give you traffic). But you’re just able to put some link just on some websites (Your other sites, or by doing link exchange, etc).

So how can we make people link to our site? The technique is called “link bait”.

How could we do this link bait? By creating quality content of course. Yes, but quality content like what?

Generally there are 5 types of article/content that could make people link to your site, we called them as “hooks”:

-Informational Hooks. This kind of hooks provides useful information, tips, tricks, etc. This site could be categorized as informational hooks (just if my article could be useful for you and you will link to me (T_T) )

-News Hooks. This kind of hooks provides the most fresh and actual information or hot news. For example, someone writes about celebrity’s gossip or disaster that kills 1000 people. You will most likely get many visitors from this hook. But this kind of hooks doesn’t last long, if the news isn’t hot anymore

-Humor Hooks. This hook tells a joke or funny picture, cartoon, or comic.

-Evil Hooks. This hook tells something that controversial. You tell something that most people will not agree with you and you provide a strong argument for it. For example, you write an article with a title “8 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Buy iPod”. People will maybe dislike you, but you got traffic and back link^^.

-Tool Hooks. You create a tool, or a program, that could be useful for people. The thing is, it’s easier to create an article than create a tool/program. But no pain no gain, right?

If your site is community based website, or tool website, I think it wouldn’t be so hard until people link to your site (just when they could find your site and think that your site is useful)

Tool based websites might have no weakness for adsense, but community based websites do have. I’ll tell you next time^^

Introduction to SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

I assume you have already registered your site on search engine (Google, Yahoo!, and MSN).

I believe your site is already detected. But the problem is, most likely if you search something related to your site, your site doesn’t show up on the first page.

For example, if I search on Google for keywords “adsense click exchange”, this site shows up on 12th page! Damn, who the hell will look to the 12th page?!

In my case, I have failed for the keywords “adsense click exchange” (but maybe someday it will show up on the 1st or 2nd page)

So how can I improve this? The technique to improve this is called SEO, Search Engine Optimization.

So what determine your site’s position in Google? That’s actually a secret and the algorithm is way too complex (and it change once in a time too)

But always remember, Google looks for quality page.

So how does Google know which site is a high quality site and which one is a low quality site?

Like I said before, it’s too complex (and a secret too), but generally there are important factors:

-Traffic (The number of visitor)
-and Back Link (The number of link on another sites referring to your site)

Most people increase the number of their back link by doing link exchange or create link bait content.

But SEO is not just limited in that.

SEO should calculate also Sitemap, the address, the content, the meta tag, etc.

I think that’s enough for the introduction. (^_^)v

First Step to Find Traffic

Now I assume you already have at least a website, you have signed up for AdSense, the design is fine, and you already have put some ads on your website.

So, what’s next?

After you build a “store”, you should find the “customers”. In this case, it means you should make people to visit your website.

There are some ways to gain traffic to your site, some of them which I know are:

-The most conventional way is by putting link to your site on another sites. You can also do link exchange with your friends.

-The most important thing is registering your website to search engine. Go to Google Webmaster. Register your site, don’t forget to authenticate and put the sitemap.

-If you got feed for your site, register your site on FeedBurner and complete the optimization steps.

-Register your site to some directories and top sites. And join the community.

Later I’ll give you the details.

Content is King

I’ve said before that my biggest mistake is not updating my blog everyday.

Why is it important to update our blog/website?

If we don’t have any content, what would they read? What will make them go to our site?

It’s simple, right?

Please see this picture

This is a table from http://www.hittail.com/ , it could trace all keywords on search engine that displays your site as the result. (on this table it display http://orenoanime.blogspot.com/ as result)

You can see that most of them aren’t popular keywords, at least they are not “ore no anime”, “anime review” or “anime news”. Some even misspelled.

After see this table, I realized how content be so important (because I don’t write much before).

Conclusion #1: The more content on your site, the more keywords will display your site. =more traffic=more page rank= even more traffic

Actually, to make traffic, writing is not the only way. You can make a download page, or some facility (forum, video streaming, community page, etc).

But at blogging we can only just write quality writing.

If you write a good writing (helpful, informative, actual, frequently updated, etc) , people would love to read your content. They will go to your site frequently. They will promote your site to the other

Conclusion #2: Quality content makes people love to go to your site. That means more traffic=more page rank=even more traffic.

So write, write and write!

At the end the conclusion is: Content is King!

It definitely requires hard work. So don’t stop! No pain, no gain!

Write everyday

Btw, to increase your content’s quality, you could add some picture related to your content, or maybe some embed video.

One more, please don’t copy-paste other’s writing. It could be trouble if the one who write the writing gets mad. Some said not good for SEO (search engine optimization) too, because search engine would prevent crawl the same page. If you got a same paragraph like another site, it will consider that your site had been crawled. Actually the algorithm is more complicated, but to prevent trouble please don’t copy-paste.
